Choosing The Best Trade And Trade School For Your Child

Every parent wants the best for their child, but after high school is over, not every kid wants to head off to university. My son decided that he was better off applying his talents and work ethic to learning a trade. The only problem was he was not sure which trade and school he wanted. My blog shares our journey of helping him decide this career path for him. Trade choices, trade schools, and how to get started are just a few of the blog topics I want to post about. A trade career is a long-term, reputable working path, so use my posts to help your child choose wisely.

Life on the Open Road – How to Get Your HR Truck Licence

Driving a truck is an in-demand profession in Australia. Not only does it offer stability and good pay, but it's also a job that requires skill and responsibility. If driving one of these vehicles is your dream, then the first step to take is to get your heavy vehicle licence. Among the different types of licences, the HR licence is the one needed if you want to drive a heavy rigid truck. But what do you need to bear in mind, and how challenging can it be to drive such a large vehicle?

Licensing Issues

Before you can begin your training for an HR licence, you must hold a current and valid driver's licence. You can then enrol in a registered training organisation that provides HR truck licence training. The first step in this journey is obtaining your learner's permit. The process includes a medical examination and theory tests that assess your knowledge of road rules. Once you receive your learner's permit, you can start your HR licence training.

Additional Challenges Ahead

An HR truck licence is not easy to get. Driving a heavy rigid truck requires more skill and knowledge than driving a standard vehicle. For example, HR truck drivers need to know their vehicle's dimensions, as it's more challenging to manoeuvre the truck around corners and through narrow streets. More importantly, HR trucks require more distance to come to a complete stop; hence, you need to be aware of your surroundings and the traffic situations at all times.

What to Bear in Mind

Driving an HR truck also requires a high level of awareness and responsibility. As an HR truck driver, you will be responsible for hauling heavy loads, and hence you must drive safely and carefully to avoid accidents. Truck driving has a higher risk of accidents compared to other vehicles, so it's important to take driving an HR truck seriously. To obtain your HR licence, you must pass both the driving test and the knowledge test.

Preparing for the Test

When it comes to the driving test, you will have to demonstrate your ability to drive the vehicle, including reversing the truck safely, reverse parking into a loading dock and driving the truck in various conditions. As you can imagine, the driving test can be challenging, and not everyone passes on the first attempt.

What You Should Remember

Getting your HR truck licence is a challenging journey that takes dedication and hard work. Along the way, you'll need to pass medical examinations, theory tests and driving tests. You'll also need to develop a high level of awareness and responsibility as you navigate your large vehicle through the roads and highways of Australia. However, with the right training and attitude, you can become an HR truck driver and enjoy a rewarding career in the trucking industry.
